Community Development

Description of EAB non-educational development projects, such as construction of houses and latrines.

Alongside its scholarship program, EAB provides for a variety of development projects in the communities with which it partners. These efforts have greatly improved the standards of dignified housing, sanitation, public health, and environmental quality available to community residents. Overall, EAB has

  • constructed nearly 40 new homes, and repaired more than 20 others;
  • built 65 latrines to improve sanitation and public health;Liquesy Casa Antes
  • erected a community health clinic, which it continues to stock with medicine;
  • planted hundreds of new trees and built a community park.

Such improvements are made with the collaboration of Pentecost Project immersion groups and other supporters, under the direction of Dominican community leaders, and with the labor of both US visitors and Dominican residents.

Liquesy Casa DespuésLiquesy, Danise and their six children, of Batey Libertad, are one example of a family life's transformed through EAB's home-construction project. In summer 2008, they changed a small tin-sheet lodging (top photo) for a new cinder-block home (bottom).
