"I wish to thank you for that opportunity in the Dominican Republic,
mainly because the trip was priceless. When I look back at high school,
this experience stands out as one of the best. I learned a lot about
myself and for the first time put my life into perspective. I will
never forget the lessons I learned and the honest and hard working
people I met over there. I plan to study abroad and hopefully volunteer
in Japan later on. I am also studying Sociology because I find it not
only relevant but interesting to discuss the problems of the world
(including social and global inequalities) nationally and globally."

"One thing that struck me about these immersion experiences was John's [the program director] ability to clearly communicate with and engage
young adults in very sophisticated cultural and historical analysis
regarding the complex economic, racial,
and cultural dynamics of
poverty in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Better than any of our
other immersion programs, the Pentecost Project maintains the delicate
balance between sharing information with our students, effectively
engaging them in group discussion, and inviting them to deeper social and cultural analysis regarding their own understandings of self, race, culture, and understanding of what it means to be human."

"Going on the service-learning trip to the Dominican Republic with EAB awakened me to a reality that had previously been foreign to me. My outlook on life has changed since, and I feel like I now have an awareness that informs the way I see life. I was so moved that I fundraised in order to attend the subsequent trip only two months later. If you are committed to social justice and want to make a difference in the lives of others, go on this trip."
