SAVE THE DATE! SEATTLE FUNDRAISER

Yanlico Graduate
On March 6th, EAB will host its fourth annual "Three Cups of Coffee: An Evening of Storytelling and Solidarity" fundraiser in Seattle.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from Yanlico Munesi Dusdal (pictured), an EAB scholarship recipient and one of the first college graduates from his community in the Dominican Republic. As always, we will also share refreshments, stories, and of course, great Dominican coffee.

Click here for more information and to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you there!

FEATURED STUDENTS

Loisa GraduationDuring the 2009-2010 school year, EAB celebrated its first two university graduates! Loisa Fransua Yuasa (pictured) was the first, graduating Cum Laude in nursing. Yanlico Munesi Dusdal (pictured, third from left) became the second when he donned the cap and gown to receive his Accounting degree. Board member Sarah Townley was present for Loisa's graduation; take a few minutes to read her reflection on this special event. Congratulations Loisa and Yanlico! You are an inspiration for your community and all of us.

FEATURED VOLUNTEER

Patty Helberg
Patty Helberg-Smukowski was a Pentecost Project participant with the Sacred Heart Parish group of 2008, following in the footsteps of her daughter, Anna. Since then, she has given of her time, talent, and treasure to advance EAB in a myriad of ways: helping produce newsletters and annual reports, serving on the Board of Directors, supporting the education of two high school students (members of her host family while in Franco Bido), and co-chairing this year's annual fundraiser. Her enthusiasm has won EAB many new friends and supporters. Thank you, Patty!

FEATURED SUPPORTERS

Serge & Marge KrikorianSerge and Marge Krikorian, parents-in-law of EAB Director John McLaughlin, have been active servants of indigenous Latin American communities for decades, as missionary workers for Wycliffe Bible Translators. Upon Serge's passing in February 2010, Marge asked that in lieu of traditional funereal gifts, memorial gifts be sent to EAB in Serge's honor. The generosity of the Krikorian family and their friends has made it possible for a new Dominican high school student to join our scholarship program this academic year. Thank you, Marge and Serge, for this life-giving gift!

FEATURED PROJECT

Libertad House BeforeLibertad House After
Before (top) and After (below): In June & July 2010, our immersion groups (Seattle Prep and Sacred Heart Parish) worked with our Dominican communities to build four new homes and significantly improve two more. Our total since 2000 now stands at 79. Funds for these projects are raised by the groups themselves and our annual fundraiser. Each home construction provides employment for skilled laborers in the communities, and also depends greatly on the volunteerism of the beneficiary family, previous beneficiary families, and our student groups. As shown in the before and after pictures at left, these new homes drastically improve a family's standard of living-- and their entire life!

2009-10 ANNUAL REPORT

Our donors' generosity has enabled EAB to expand our services again this year. On behalf of the many good Dominicans whose lives are changed for the better through our programs, we offer you our sincere thanks.

Please take a few minutes to read our annual report to see how-- via the numbers and the stories-- your gifts have made an enormous difference.
