Tree planting projects are a relatively inexpensive way to improve the quality of life in ecologically devastated communities. Trees provide shade, fruit, and cleaner air. The projects, organized and enacted by the communities, are also a fun and effective way to bring residents together around environmental awareness. One previous project was sparked by a viewing of the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." Once planted, saplings are tended by volunteer households.
