Donate to the JJM III Memorial Fund

The McLaughlin family is very pleased to announce the creation of the John J McLaughlin III Memorial Fund, “Celebrating a Legacy of Giving Back,” to benefit Education Across Borders.

Education Across Borders is the 501c3 nonprofit organization founded by John IV, and supported in many ways by John III, and his wife, Christine. All donations are fully tax-deductible.

John III visited the Dominican Republic several times, where his son was living, on a personal basis, and as part of service groups with Gonzaga and Visitation Catholic high schools of Washington, DC.

Those formative experiences helped John understand the deep and long-lasting value that EAB’s programs have for thousands of people: providing basic health and college education for the neediest in the Dominican Republic, and life-changing service experiences for U.S. students and adults who go there. “Giving back,” sharing love, always creates abundance– for others, and even for oneself.

And the friendships he formed in the D.R. really changed John, making him more committed to community service. He encouraged everyone he knew to “get involved in giving back.”  He inspired many men to volunteer with the Gonzaga DC Classic tournament, and to offer hands-on service to the causes it supported: the McKenna Center, Red Cloud Indian School, and others, including Education Across Borders.

EAB finds itself at a crossroads today: having survived the dual crises of the pandemic and inflation, it is now restructuring to meet the challenges ahead. For all of its 25 years, EAB has operated on a threadbare staff and budget, relying heavily on the efforts of John IV.  It must now create a stronger, more balanced organization, and grow its remarkable mission to benefit thousands more people in future generations.

We have set a goal of $1 million to meet this challenge, and your gift will help:

  • Expand EAB’s clean water, sanitation, basic medicine, and decent housing for impoverished Dominican families… to restore basic health and dignity

  • Expand the primary, secondary, and college scholarship support for Dominican students in these same families… to break the cycle of poverty and dependence

  • Expand scholarship support for U.S. students who cannot afford the costs (airfare, etc) of participating in EAB’s life-changing service program in the D.R.

Please prayerfully consider our invitation to contribute generously, to “dig deeper,” with a one-time or multi-year gift.  We believe this is God’s work, responding to the cry of the poor, creating justice in this world which needs it so much. We would be honored if you would join us, and our dear John, in making EAB’s mission endure.

In love and peace,

Chris McLaughlin & John J McLaughlin IV
