HEALTH

We HEAL:

Access to healthcare in rural areas is extremely scarce. EAB plays a critical role in bringing health care to rural areas that are too often left out of government health care facilities and programs. With the initial step of improving the living conditions and ensuring families are in safe and secure homes, health prospects increase greatly. Our free-access clinics enable community members to receive medications and health care that would previously require a day trip to the city, which adds another financial burden. Together, these two health initiatives are improving lives and providing hope for the future.

We NOURISH:

During extreme economic hardship, especially during the holiday season, when families are often without work, we serve community members through a hunger relief program, which includes holiday food baskets.

We MAGNIFY the Benefits of Clean Water & Sanitation

Contaminated water causes disease and illness that prevent children from attending school and keep adults out of work. We have provided water filters, handwashing stations and dignified latrines to hundreds of families in our partner communities. Through our W.A.S.H. (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) initiatives, we are moving closer to our goal of ensuring 100% of our households in all five communities have a water filter and proper hygiene training by 2023 and access to a latrine by 2025.

EDUCATION

Education is at the heart of EAB’s methodology of community transformation.

Schools are often located far away from children’s homes requiring transport and in some cases meals, school supplies, and uniforms. EAB has an extensive elementary school and high school program which includes mentorship by community leaders. Young leaders in our program organize summer events for children often left without many fun activities and even have led community beautification projects such as tree planting and littering cleanup. For those stellar students that graduate high school, we have a limited number of college and trade school scholarships that help students with tuition and housing in the city of Santiago for them to pursue a professional degree.

SERVICE

True to our mission, Education Across Borders transforms communities through bonds of genuine relationships.

Through service-learning immersion and community exchange programs we work in partnership with communities here in the US and in the Dominican Republic to co-create lasting solutions to extreme poverty. Our service programs run during spring break and summer break and include a 2 week experience and an alumni 1 week program.
